10 ways to maximise your recycling

Remember: recycling your waste is cheaper than throwing it away. Here are some tips on how to maximise your recycling to get the best value from your Paper Round service and reduce your waste management costs:

1. Recycling Bins

Recycling bins help you keep your recycling sacks neat and remind staff to use them. Paper Round has a range of bins to suit any office, we also have second hand Slim Jims if your budget is tight. Click here for more details.

  • 2. Location, location

Recycling bins need to be conveniently placed so that recycling is as easy as throwing it in the waste bin. On the other hand it is obviously important not to over populate the office with large bins! We recommend either personal under-desk bins or one communal bin for up to 10 staff and if necessary additional bins by printers.

  • 3. Posters

It is essential that your bins are clearly signed for your scheme to run properly so that staff know what they can and cannot put into them. Paper Round has a range of posters; please click here to request some.

  • 4. Check your bins

You don’t have to rifle through your waste bin but when you do use it, quickly scan it to see if recyclables are being thrown away. It can help you check how well your scheme is working – do you need more bins or maybe there is a new material that you can recycle such as plastic bottles, glass, food or electricals. Click here to request an A-Z of our services.

  • 5. Ban the dustbin

Individual waste bins under desks encourage staff to be lazy and not recycle. Replacing them with personal recycling bins and keeping waste bins for communal areas only may be met with some protest but you will most definitely see an immediate improvement in your recycling.

  • 6. Recycle CDs

CDs have a habit of being used only a few times and then just clutter up cupboards. CDs are 100% recyclable and Paper Round offers a free collection service. To help you start recycling we are offering you a free CD recycling bin - click now to request one now.

  • 7. Recycle Toners

Reusing toners is an excellent way to help the environment and save money. Remember that toner manufacturers ‘take back scheme’ shred cartridges returned to them to encourage sales of the new toners.

Paper Round offers a free collection service that ensures toners are remanufactured and reused Just leave your empty toners in their boxes next to your other recycling and we’ll collect them.

You can also close the loop by buying remanufactured toners back from us, they’re as good as new and just a fraction of the cost. send us an email to check if we have a suitable remanufactured toner for you.

  • 8. Nominate a recycling champion or green team

Putting someone in charge of recycling can really help improve your recycling rates. They don’t need to be experts in recycling, just keen and motivated to make a difference.

We hold free training seminars to help your environmental champions – click here for future events.

  • 9. Publicise results

Telling everyone in the office how well they are recycling will make them feel good and encourage them to recycle more. Paper Round provides annual certificates with these details for you to use in your staff room, intranet or newsletters.

Detailed management reports are available in our Members Area -  please click here to log in now or call 0207407 9100.

  •  10. Zero to Landfill

If you area really keen on reducing your environmental impact, Paper Round has a new waste collection service for everything you can’t recycle. Rather than ending up in landfill, we take it to an Energy from Waste where it is used to generate electricity. It’s at great way to demonstrate your environmental commitment to your stakeholders and set yourself apart from your competition.
