TfL to achieve 'Zero to Landfill' Status with Paper Round's innovative waste management.
This month Paper Round Ltd won the tender for a five year complete waste management contract worth over £300,000 for 30 of Transport for London's sites that aims to dramatically improve TfL's environmental performance.
As part of the Mayor of London's responsibilities, TfL needed waste management policies to withstand the toughest media scrutiny. As London's ethical recycling company, Paper Round will guarantee that they will pass with flying colours by increasing their recycling rates from 20% to 65% and by using modern refuse-to-energy plants for the disposal of TfL's non-recyclable residual waste. This will enable TfL to achieve 'zero-to-landfill' status within 3 months of contract start.
Paper Round has provided recycling for the majority of the TfL Estate for over 6 years, and looks forward to taking on the complete contract for TfL's 30 sites. Paper Round Director Bill Swan is confident that Paper Round's "Innovative recycling and waste solutions will enable TfL to set a shining environmental example to other businesses by improving its environmental performance and making London a better place to live and work."
The scheme will need require TfL staff to use a range of designated bins for different materials. Staff engagement is therefore essential to the success of this scheme and so Paper Round will be engaging TfL's 14,000 staff with waste minimisation campaigns, recycling initiatives and supporting TfL's existing Environmental Champions to help drive the behavioural change.
TfL's recycling and residual waste will be treated to the highest standards. Paper Round has paid close attention to the carbon footprint of it operations and this contract. Working with its sister company Carbon Smart, Bill Swan has examined every aspect of Paper Round's operations to reduce its carbon footprint before offsetting residual emissions with its charity partner, Trees for Cities.
