Paper Round: IT Recycling - Legislation IT Recycling - Legislation

Disposing of IT equipment is governed by many rules and regulations. Paper Round is highly experienced in this field and ensures that you comply with all relevant legislation with minimum hassle. We make sure that you have all the paperwork you need to demonstrate your compliance with your responsibilities.

Duty of Care

Waste Carrier Registration Certificate (click to download)
Paper Round is a Registered Waste Carrier (GTL/364890) and can carry any hazardous or non-hazardous waste.

Click here for a copy of our registration certificate.

Duty of Care Waste Transfer Notes (WTN) will be issued for all one-off IT collections. Existing Paper Round members are covered by our annual WTN but we can issue an additional WTN for IT on request.

If we are carrying hazardous waste we will generate a Consignment Note and notify the Environment Agency as appropriate.

WEEE Directive

The Waste Electronics and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) Directive is new European legislation. For the first time it puts an obligation on businesses to ensure the correct disposal and recycling of their electronic and IT equipment. The electronics industry is subsidising a number of collection schemes, but this is only for household waste. Businesses must arrange and pay for their own recycling.

Data Protection Act (1998)

It is your Company's legal responsibility to ensure personal information of individuals (staff or customers) does not enter the public domain. The rise in identity theft has increased the importance of safeguarding personal data.

To help demonstrate your compliance with the Act you should specify one of Paper Round's certificated enhanced security options when disposing of your PC's.

Why all the Regulations?

Disposal of IT and electrical equipment is strictly regulated as it is one of the fastest growing waste streams in the UK and contains a range of potentially harmful pollutants:
