Industry standards for document shredding do not currently exist in the Britain but have been established in Germany for some time. Much of the EU has adopted the German standard, and the UK appears to be moving towards a similar standardization. The German Institute for Standardization, DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung), is a technical and scientific association recognized by the German government as the national standards body, representing German interests at international and European levels. DIN is the equivalent to the British Standards Institute (BSI), which is the National Standards Body for the UK, responsible for facilitating, drafting, publishing and marketing British Standards and other guidelines. DIN 32757-1 is meant to make business more secure for personal protection by standardising destruction. DIN 32757-1 differentiates five security stages of document shredding: Security Level 3 pertains to confidential records, such as personal data and documents. This is the minimum level recommended for most security protection applications. Strip cut 1.9 mm/particle cut 3.9 x 30 - 50 mm. |
