According to The Centre for Sustainabilitty and Commerce, the average person generates 4.3 pounds of waste per day.
Many of us do our part in trying to minimalise this by reducing, reusing and recycling materials. But one inspirational New Yorker has fully commited to producing minimal waste and has spent the past four years living a zero waste lifestyle.
Lauren Singer, has impressively fit all of her rubbish from the past four years into one 16oz mason jar!

After majoring in Environmental Studies, the 25-year-old made the conscious decision to commit to living sustainably in 2013.

This is how much waste Lauren had generated after two years into her Zero Waste journey.

Four years ago she began taking simple but effective measures to reduce how much waste she created. She wrote about her journey on her now renowned blog Trash is for Tossers, where she described her first steps to reducing waste such as shopping at the farmer’s market to eliminate packaging and learning how to compost in her one-bedroom apartment.

Last year, three years into her journey, Lauren’s creativity and focus drove her to make her own toiletries, and she has come as far as to have  launched her own eco-friendly organic and vegan cleaning product company, The Simply Co.

On her blog, Lauren shares a series of videos advising on how to follow in her footsteps, including instructions on minimalising food waste and where to buy solids and liquids in bulk to minimalise packaging. She also demonstrates how to make home-made toothpaste from just a few simple ingredients.

Lauren recently wrote on her Instagram account ‘@thesimplyco is growing fast! It's time they learn that I'm not just looking to play their game, I'm out to change it! ✔️ #noplastic #nontoxic #3ingredients #organic #vegan #handmade’

Rise to the challenge like Lauren and see how much waste you can save in your household this year.
